4-ingredient Laundry Detergent Powder Recipe
This "Molly Suds" dupe is just as powerful for a fraction of the price. Compatible with standard, commercial, and High-Efficiency (HE) washers.
Molly Suds ingredients: Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom salt), Sea Salt, Essential Oil(s) and/or 100% Natural Fragrance(s)
Mia Suds ingredients: Sodium Carbonate (washing soda), Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda), Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom salt), Sea Salt, and (optional) Essential Oils
Ingredients
2 cups sodium carbonate (aka washing soda which is made by cooking baking soda)
2 cups sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda)
1/2 cup magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt)
3 tablespoons sea salt
Optional: 20 drops of essential oil (I like a blend of lavender and eucalyptus)
Directions
Whisk together all dry ingredients.
Drop in the essential oil last, if using. Whisk until there is no clumps.
Transfer the detergent into a glass container with a 1-2 tablespoon scoop.
To use, load 1-2 tablespoons into the bottom of your laundry machine. Run some warm water to let the powder dissolve. Throw clothes on top and run the load with warm water.
Optional: If your water is hard, pour a cup of white vinegar into the laundry machine with the powder to help deodorize clothes further.
Tips
• If your batch clumps up by the time you’re halfway through the batch drop in a silica packet from something you’ve bought like shoes, luggage, etc. into the jar.
• Shake the jar before each use to keep it clump-free.
I am curious, whether potash which is a readily available and abundant source of alkalinity on Homestead, is compatible with cleaning products that wash down the drain and leach into the soil.
Potash in dish detergent? Potash in laundry detergent?
Something has to balance out the pH so that the water does not adversely affect the soil.
I suggest intriguing books regarding greywater from authors like Art Ludwig and Laura Allen.
Thank you so much for reminding us of what we should have been doing our whole lives! This is great , thank you!
I'm using it immediately and ditching the commercial crap
